Those looking to take out a credit card from Barclaycard can now check whether they are eligible for the product online.
The first provider in the UK to do so, Barclaycard has added the tool to its website, allowing customers to informally check whether they would be successful for a particular credit card with the firm.
Future ability to take out credit cards will not be affected by using the checking facility, although a 'footprint' is left on the customer's file to show that their information has been accessed.
Amer Sajed, chief executive for Barclaycard UK, said: "The check can be completed in a few minutes and gives consumers a good indication of whether their application will be accepted."
A new facility which allows customers to see the likelihood of getting accepted for certain credit cards was also recently released on price comparison website Confused.com.
