A new report has found that nearly one in five British adults are planning to finance this Christmas with a credit card .
Financial advice website moneysupermarket.com found that 17 per cent of consumers have not saved enough cash for the festivities and will be dipping into credit card funds in order to pay for presents.
However, 18 per cent said they have the money in the bank to cover the costs of Christmas, while 34 per cent believe they will have done by the time December 25th comes around.
Kevin Mountford, head of banking at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Preparation is the key during the festive season and consumers who have saved will be able to start the New Year without the burden of Christmas debt hanging over them."
Brits looking to turn over a new leaf in the New Year may be interested in a recently-launched Capital One credit card .
Aimed at customers with shaky credit ratings, the plastic sees rates reduced if payments are made on time.
