Businesses which handle credit card transactions may be interested in a new initiative from RSA, formerly Royal Sun and Alliance, which protects clients' data from being used fraudulently.
Credit card-related identity theft led to £609.9 million worth of business losses in 2008, up 14 per cent on 2007, according to research by the Association of Payment Clearing Services.
The new RSA package implements effective access control measures for protecting client's details while complying with Payment Card Industry regulations.
Also included in the service are workshops, consultancy and on-site assessments.
Des Cross, retail director at RSA, said: "The threat of security attacks on [retailers'] computer systems leading to the abuse of customer data is yet another growing worry for them and could prove costly to their reputation."
Recent research carried out for National Identity Fraud Prevention Week showed that credit card fraud in Huddersfield has risen by 50 per cent in the last year, according to the Huddersfield Examiner.
