A "market leading" credit card has been launched by Abbey .
The bank claims that its new credit card offers people the longest balance transfer period on the high street and this will assist those looking to manage an existing balance.
People who switch cash to the credit card will be able to benefit from zero per cent interest for a period of 15 months.
Roger Lovering, managing director of Abbey Credit Card, said: "In the current economic climate, people are having to manage their finances more carefully and from talking to our customers, it became clear that current priorities are very much about good financial management."
Abbey Credit Card will continue to offer people products designed to help them through the current downturn, he added.
Yesterday, a study by Saga found that 46 per cent of people are using their credit card to buy goods because they know purchases of more than £100 will be protected if the supplier goes bust before the transition is completed.
