A new report has shown that British people waste up to £1 billion every year when they buy items abroad that they have simply forgotten to take with them on holiday .
Released by Abbey Credit Cards, the research showed that 56 per cent of holidaymakers rate their camera as the top essential item for going abroad, yet 12 per cent also admit to accidentally leaving it behind.
Also left behind are swimwear (ten per cent) and sufficient clothing for all weather (ten per cent) and Brits end up forking out money abroad for these items, according to the credit card provider .
Callum Gibson, head of credit cards at Abbey, said: "We should maybe all just take a few extra minutes this summer to ensure we've packed everything we need before setting off for the airport ."
The Association of British Travel Agents recently made a guide available on their website to advise those thinking of using their credit card while on holiday in a foreign country this summer .
