People can help spread the cost of a Valentines Day gift by using the right credit card, according to one expert.
Research by Halifax Credit Cards shows the average romantic spends £41 on flowers and £170 on jewellery at this time of year.
However, Alan Brindley, spokesperson for the credit card firm, warned that unwary shoppers could end up forking out even more in the long run.
"By choosing a card with a substantial great zero per cent deal, valentine spends needn't attract any extra interest," he said.
This means that people with big hearts need not end up with a broken wallet, the credit card expert added in a brilliantly witty aside.
Recently, the Abbey Zero credit card was named Best New Credit Card Product of the Year at the Card Awards.
Roger Lovering, managing director of credit cards at Abbey, stated that the product had beaten off some stiff competition in order to claim top spot.
