Get the right credit card for winter breaks, site says

Wed, 09 Dec 2009

Many Brits will be heading abroad this Christmas, but consumers could be left out of pocket if they do not make the right choice when taking out a credit card .

Moneysupermarket.com has warned customers to shop around to find the deals that suit them, as some providers charge more than others for exchange rates and credit card usage overseas.

The site recommended Nationwide's Gold and Santander's Zero credit cards, which come with no transaction fees.

This is compared to the Thomas Cook credit card, which places a 2.99 per cent charge on all purchases.

Peter Harrison, travel money expert at moneysupermarket.com, said: "It can be costly for consumers to use their current accounts or credit cards abroad, so they should check the terms and conditions with their provider before travelling."

Moneyfacts recently warned winter travellers not to use credit cards to take out money at an ATM machine when abroad.
