New research by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society has revealed the difference in credit card use between men and women, with the former apparently better at holding back the spending.
Some 51 per cent of men told the group they were "careful spenders", only using their credit card to pay for everyday, low-cost items and making sure balances are cleared at the end of each month.
Only 35 per cent of women could say them same, however, four per cent more females than males refrain from using a credit card at all, according to the results of the poll.
Matthew Bullock, chief executive for Norwich and Peterborough Building Society, said: "We understand there are more exciting things to do than sort out your finances, but in the current climate it's really important that you do everything you can to ensure you're as in control of your money as possible."
A recent survey by the Co-operative Bank found that British people are spending their wages by the time the 20th of the month comes around, causing more to turn to credit cards .
