An expert has warned that credit card holders should take notice of any small changes to the terms and conditions of their product, as it could mean they will pay more money.
Writing in the Daily Mail, James Coney said that American Express has now joined Goldfish, Sky and Nationwide in the list of credit card providers which have recently altered the way they charge customers.
Amex, which provides a platinum credit card, also made the direct debit withdrawal date on its products four days earlier, which Coney suggests is to make more money by pushing the day to one before salaries hit bank accounts .
A spokesman for the firm told the newspaper: "If the new changes mean that the payment date is inconvenient then they can call us and change their billing period to a better date."
Caxton FX recently said that British people waste up to £284 million every year by using their credit cards to take out money from ATM machines while on holiday .
