People should make sure that they are making the most of any rewards based credit cards they might have.
Among the credit card perks on offer are interest free credit, cash back, and airmiles cards, reports Thriftyscot.co.uk.
However, while many people take out such credit cards, the website states that around £4.25 billion worth of rewards go unclaimed.
"All cardholders should check and see whether they have outstanding rewards on their cards, as there may be a deadline by which the rewards must be claimed, which means that the cardholder could otherwise lose out," the website states.
People should also use such credit cards for everyday purchases such a petrol and shopping and then pay the bill in full to help boost their reward levels, the news provider adds.
Yesterday, David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, advised people only to apply for a credit card if they are "almost certain" that they will be accepted.
