Less than a third of credit card customers (32 per cent) want the introduction of a security device for when they making a purchase online.
Research conducted by Abbey found that ever fewer credit card holders (30.5 per cent) want to be asked more questions when they shop via the internet .
The most popular option was greater monitoring of transactions by the credit card provider .
Neil Wilson, director of financial crime at Abbey, said: "Not surprisingly the research suggests that people want security with the least hassle. Finding customer-friendly ways to protect people and their accounts is key.
"Ongoing monitoring is one of the most important factors in preventing card fraud ."
He added that the under-25s are most likely to be worried about online fraud .
Last week, a study by Fair Investment found that 60 per cent of those with credit cards clear their balance in full each month, meaning they do not pay any interest on their purchases.
