People should be vigilant when it comes to their credit cards to help reduce their risk of falling victim to fraud, one expert says.
Danny Harrison, a security expert at card protection firm CPP, said that research had indicated that it took an average of ten hours for someone to report their credit card missing, a statistic he described as "startling".
He added: "If you are concerned as to where your cards are, you should contact your bank immediately."
Mr Harrison went on to say that credit card fraud was increasingly viewed as "a victimless crime" as it is the bank that pays in the majority of cases, not the individual.
Research carried out by CPP found that London was the worst place in the UK for debit and credit card fraud and theft .
Its figures showed that 28 per cent of Londoners have been a victim of credit card fraud.
