More than 5.9 million people switched credit cards in the last six months as consumers look to tackle debt, new research shows.
The figures, released by MoneyExpert.com, show that 394,000 more people switched their credit cards in the last half of 2007 than in the first half.
Sean Gardener, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com, said: "The increase in credit card switching means that people are concentrating more on reducing debts and are less concerned about other product areas."
Mr Gardener added that almost everyone could save money by switching deals and urged people to find the best deal they could.
However, he warned that many people used zero per cent credit card deals to move debt around, rather than repaying it.
Last month MoneyExpert.com revealed that more than five million people - or 11 per cent of card holders - had missed credit card payments in the second half of 2007.
