Envious credit card customers have been given a glimpse of how the other half live after financial services provider Virgin Money revealed the spending habits of the rich and famous.
According to the credit card provider, one of the world's biggest spenders is Russian oil tycoon Roman Abramovich, whose outlay includes £56 million on a private jet and £140 million buying Chelsea FC.
Another lavish spender is motor sport magnate Bernie Ecclestone who has an estimated fortune of £2.2 billion and recently spent £20 million on a yacht.
However, the financial services provider points out that less wealthy people also feature highly in the spending league - Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed has bought a 65,000-acre estate despite being worth £430 million.
"It's interesting to see that the rich don't necessarily spend according to their means," commented Jason Wyer-Smith of Virgin Money.
"It's not always how much they've got to spend buy a matter of what they want to buy."
In other credit card news, the Barclaycard Breathe was launched recently.
As part of the deal, the credit card company has pledged to donate 50 per cent of all profits made from the credit card to environmental causes.
