British holidaymakers do not need to harbour fears that their credit card companies will sting them for using the plastic overseas, Apacs has claimed.
The UK payments association said that credit cards often offer greater flexibility and convenience than travellers cheques when outside the UK, as they are a known quantity and can even carry fewer fees.
Furthermore, many service vendors overseas will not accept travellers cheques, making credit cards a more viable option for holidaymakers, said a spokesperson for the organisation.
"With travellers cheques in lots of areas of Europe, the only way to get the funds is to queue up in a bank. And that may not be the way you want to spend your holiday," she explained.
The official also noted that Britons attempting to use travellers cheques rather than credit cards in a variety of European countries will find that their options "look very scant".
Apacs is the UK trade association for bodies requiring payment clearance services, such as banks and financial services providers that offer debit cards and credit cards.
