Charity credit cards, which enable users to provide money for a good cause of their choice, are becoming increasingly popular, it has been claimed.
Alex Barnett, a spokesperson for Halifax, said that credit cards of this nature are increasingly figuring in the mainstream market as many consumers want to donate, with cards an ideal opportunity to do so.
According to the expert, Halifax raised £1 million for charitable causes from credit cards of this type last year, with between £16 and £18 million having been donated since their inception.
"A lot of people pay their balances off in full every month so never pay any interest on the card anyway, so the rates are irrelevant, but they can still benefit the charity and it is just another way of donating really," remarked the spokesperson.
Mr Barnett added that many other credit card providers offer similar deals, with Nationwide offering money to Comic Relief as part of its deal.
These comments follow similar remarks earlier in the week from a Co-operative Bank spokesperson, who said that affinity credit cards still offer a good rate of interest.
