The average family with two young kids spends £441 per year on children's parties each year, it has been revealed, which many people may be funding with their credit cards.
Research from credit card specialists American Express has found that parents spend an average of £87 on their child's first birthday party.
Meanwhile, adults apparently also spend £84 on presents for their sons and daughters, while also shelling out an average of £49 on gifts for other kids' parties in a typical year.
If these figures are doubled for parents with two kids, the final sum spent is £441 and Kate Harris, vice president of UK partnerships from American Express, acknowledged that financing can sometimes prove difficult.
"Throwing parties can be a joy for parents and their children alike," she said.
"However, many families find that the cost of entertainment, venues, catering and presents soon adds up."
Parents looking to fund children's party expenses may wish to consider using 0% credit cards, which could enable them to defer repayments for a set time period without accumulating interest on their credit card debts.
