Millions of pounds are expected to be withdrawn from cash machines in the UK during the festive period, it has been claimed.
According to figures produced by Sainsbury's Bank, £348.06 million each day will be withdrawn from ATMs during December, which equates to £241,708 per minute.
The firm noted that if its estimations are correct, December will mark the first month that over £10 billion has been withdrawn.
Alex Blake, head of ATMs at Sainsburys, said: "People are more reliant on ATMs than ever before and the peak time for cash withdrawals is December."
Last month, the UK's payments association, Apacs, predicted that 64.3 per cent of consumer spending will be made using plastic cards this Christmas .
The organisation suggested that credit card spending in December this year is likely to reach £11.7 billion, higher than the figure recorded during the same month in 2006.
