Credit card customers in London have been reminded about the importance of keeping their personal details secure following the publication of new post-code research.
According to information solutions specialist Experian, 2,124 people who had been targeted by identity fraud contacted it for the first time in the final six months of 2006.
To put this into context, it is 69 per cent more than was recorded in the second half of 2005, credit card holders may be concerned to learn.
And the capital city apparently leads the way in terms of risk, with the average person living within the M25 approximately two-and-a-half times more susceptible to being targeted than the national average.
"We should all be looking after our personal information because it is as precious as the cash in our wallets," remarked Jill Stevens, director of consumer affairs at Experian.
"Nobody can be complacent as anyone anywhere can be targeted by a fraudster."
Credit card users who want to minimise the risk of their details being stolen may want to consider putting into practice some basic credit card security tips.
When withdrawing money from a cash machine via a credit card, for example, they may wish to shield their pin number from other people, as well as change the four-digit code on a regular basis.
