Going to university is an expensive adventure, but Barclaycard is aiming to take the pressure off students and their parents.
Barclaycard Student is a new card, which aims to help students use credit in a sensible manner, in addition to making the most of their time at university .
The Barclaycard Student has an initial £600 credit limit and no fee for exceeding this limit, with monthly repayment charges of five per cent, as well as free text message reminders of when the monthly payment is due.
"We have tried to create a card that will help students to get the most out of student life but recognises that there are times when finances will be under pressure," James Le Brocq, Head of Barclaycard UK credit cards, said.
"By keeping credit limits sensible, reducing charges and introducing features like text reminders, students can build a credit history which will prove useful throughout university and beyond."
The company has joined forces with Dell to supply £360 notebooks, including free MS Works software, to cardholders, repayable interest free over 12 months.
New top-up fees have been introduced for university study this year, adding an extra cost of up to £3,000.
