Credit card users have been urged to be careful if looking to their plastic for cash this festive season.
Although customers can use their credit cards for extra funds, the interest applied can often be a hefty price, claimed MoneyExpert.
The consumer advice group warned that the average annual percentage rate paid on cash withdrawals is 21.27 per cent, although 11 credit card providers offer rates below 15 per cent.
Furthermore, even if the balance is paid off, each cash withdrawal made on a credit card carries an average minimum charge of £2.60, or 2.46 per cent for larger withdrawals.
Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert, commented: "It's tempting to use your credit card to tide you over for some extra cash.
"But the advice for consumers is simple. Don't use your credit card to take out cash at an ATM."
Mr Gardner added that consumers should use their debit card for cash and credit card for purchases.
Recent research from Morgan Stanley Credit Card found that cashback credit cards are increasingly popular among consumers.
